UNCOMMON FACTS ABOUT COMMON BIRDS Stan Tekiela will present a fun and entertaining talk with fascinating facts and tidbits about some of the birds that people love to hate along with some of the more common birds in our yard. Tekiela will challenge your preconceived ideas about common birds, such as the European Starling, the American Crow and more. You will never look at these birds the same way. This talk wraps up with a message of conservation and understanding.
HOW TO PAY FOR SENIOR HOUSING This session will focus on how to build a budget and plan to pay for un-reimbursed medical expenses, such as assisted living, memory care and nursing home care. Topics will include Medicare coverage for long-term care, Medical Assistance programs, veterans benefits and long-term care insurance, including eligibility requirements and how income and assets are split between spouses when applying for various programs. Speaker is Mary Frances Price, an elder law attorney from Long, Reher, Hanson, Price.

THE TALE OF DUELING BENEFITS – VA’S AID & ATTENDANCE VS. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE LTC Theresa Johnson, an attorney with Elder Law Services, will speak on the VA Aid and Attendance pension and who may qualify. She will discuss eligibility factors, physical capacity issues, financial eligibility, gifting penalties and the benefits. The discussion will be primarily focused on the new eligibility rules around VA Aid and Attendance but will also cover the interplay between the VA benefit and Medical Assistance.
SENIOR HOUSING COOPERATIVES 101 What’s all the buzz about senior housing cooperatives? Come learn about this hassle-free style of living that is attracting many of our baby boomers and beyond. You will be educated on the types of cooperatives, price ranges, buy-in, re-sale, day-to-day living. Plus, hear the perspective of current owners/members. An expert panel will be available for questions from Applewood Pointe.
