FITNESS

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES The Community Center offers a variety of classes for ages 12 and up (12–14 year olds may participate when accompanied by a parent/guardian). Classes are taught by certified instructors in a comfortable setting with safety and fun in mind. Reservations are required for classes. To make a class reservation or view a current class list, visit at www.shakopeemn.gov/recreation/community-center/fitness . When arriving for classes, check in at the front desk, and then scan your membership card or pay the daily fee. Consult with your physician prior to beginning any new exercise program.

FITNESS ORIENTATIONS Get acquainted with our cardio equipment and strength machines as well as fitness floor etiquette. A certified personal trainer will demonstrate and answer questions on the proper use and setting adjustments of each machine. A fitness orientation is required for all youth, ages 12–14, prior to use of the fitness center. After attending the fitness orientation, youth may work out on the fitness floor with a parent/guardian. Fitness orientations are offered each month on the first and third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and the third Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Please see website for dates and to register. Pre-registration required; registration ends one day prior to orientation. Fee: $20. Members will receive a $20 refund after successfully completing orientation.

GROUP FITNESS SPECIAL EVENTS Get ready to challenge yourself this fall with a variety of fitness classes and fitness challenges where you will get to enjoy old favorites, discover new favorites, and push your fitness to the next level. Stay tuned for further details as the date of each class or challenge gets closer. Fall into Fitness Open House Saturday, September 23 | 8–11 a.m. | Free On this first day of Autumn, join us for a morning of mini-classes, membership and personal training specials, drawings, snacks, and an opportunity to meet the staff and tour the fitness floor. Turkey Burn Friday, November 24 | 8:30–10 a.m. Thanksgiving is over, and it is time to burn off the turkey, dressing, and pie with cycling, weights, core, and more. Bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the food shelf to receive free admission to the class. Registration is a must!

PERSONAL TRAINING The Community Center offers one-on-one and two-person personal training to help you achieve your goals. Certified personal trainers will design a safe and effective program, individualized to each client’s needs, abilities and goals. Personal training sessions are 55 minutes. This class is designed for those with Parkinson’s but is open to all who need to improve mobility and balance. This class is designed to reduce stiffness, regain mobility, and improve balance and posture while strengthening muscles from head to toe. Community Center, 1255 Fuller St. S. Day Time Code Tue. 10:15–11:15 a.m. Free for members; day pass for non-members PEDALING FOR PARKINSON’S This indoor cycling program is designed to increase endurance, mobility, and balance. You will progress week to week at your own pace. Riding an indoor stationary bicycle has been shown to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s as much as 35%. This class does require a medical consent from your doctor. Please contact sfoley@ShakopeeMN.gov to have one emailed to you or stop in at the front desk of the Community Center to pick one up.
