Shakopee Parks and Recreation department's new software is built with mobility in mind New registration system As fall programs open for registration, Shakopee Parks and Recreation will move to a new registration system. On Aug. 23, the city will begin phasing out Max Galaxy as it’s registration software and move to CivicRec. The transition was made necessary as Max Galaxy runs in part through Microsoft Silverlight, which Microsoft will no longer support beginning Oct. 12. “Unfortunately, our hands were tied in terms of changing over to CivicRec,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jay Tobin. “We’re confident that this new product will give Shakopee residents exactly what they need.” CivicRec will provide the ability for residents to register for programs and Community Center memberships from the comfort of home. The intuitive program allows residents to easily search for programs through tabs on the main menu divided by program area. Residents can now register for programs using a mobile device. With the new system, residents can reserve spaces at the Community Center and the Youth Building online. In January 2022, park shelters can also be rented at www.ShakopeeMN.gov/registration. “CivicRec is a program for the 21st Century,” said Tobin. “We know that our customers are using their phones to browse the web more than ever and CivicRec will allow them to register from a phone browser.” Unlike Max Galaxy, CivicRec saves information from users debit or credit cards, allowing residents to instantly register for programs. "Just like customers save their credit card number to Amazon, Kohls or other websites, CivicRec will do the same, all while protecting our member's identities," Tobin said. Max Galaxy required residents to provide checking account information, including account and routing numbers, to register for monthly community center memberships. With CivicRec, this will no longer be an option. On Sept. 30, all accounts associated with a checking account will be suspended. “During this transition, we’re asking members to update their membership information with the Parks and Recreation Department by connecting a credit or debit card to their account,” www.ShakopeeMN.gov/registration. During the Community Center closure between Aug. 27 and Sept. 6, residents will be able to change their membership information by visiting the Ice Arena. Members will also be required to update their photos for the new system. They can choose to do this during the closure, or on their first visit to the community center after Sept. 7. For questions or concerns, email the department at parks@ShakopeeMN.gov. said Tobin. “This will prevent any lapse in service for customers.” Residents can update their information in person or online at

What is your refund policy? Registration fees for programs canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department receive a full refund. If you cancel your registration before the deadline, we will refund your registration fee, minus a $5 processing fee. No refunds will be given if a cancellation is requested after the deadline. What happens if I miss a class? Make-ups for individual missed classes will not be accommodated. NON-RESIDENT FEE POLICY All participants living outside Shakopee city limits of Shakopee must pay a $10 non-resident fee for each program. This amount is per participant per class and must be paid when registering. Non-resident fees are not applicable to one-day events, field trips, youth associations or adult athletic leagues. Jackson and Louisville Township resident registrations: The $10 will be paid by the township at the end of the year. If it is not correct, please call our office at 952-233-9500. I have a Shakopee address. Why am I not considered a resident? Even though your mailing address is Shakopee, you reside in a township or adjacent community. Your tax dollars are not directed to the municipality of Shakopee. School district and city boundaries are not the same. Why does a non-resident have to pay more than a resident? Residents within city limits have a portion of their tax dollars support city services. Slightly higher fees for non-residents are intended to keep the financial aspect fair.
REGISTRATION DEADLINES Registration deadlines are established for each class to help ensure appropriate staffing, supplies and facilities to meet registration needs. YOUTH ASSOCIATIONS REGISTRATION The Shakopee Community Center does not accept registrations for youth associations. Please check individual program information to ensure you register correctly. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I know I'm in? You can assume you are in the class you registered for unless you receive a call to the contrary. We will call you only if: • The class you chose has reached its registration limit and you were placed on the waiting list. • Your second choice was processed. • Your registration form is incomplete. Can I transfer to another class? We will make every effort to accommodate your request to transfer to another class; however, that may not always be possible. There is a $5 service fee for all class transfers that Yes. When classes reach their maximum registration, a wait list will be started. If an opening becomes available, it will be offered to the first/next person on the waiting list until filled. You will be contacted if your registration is able to be accommodated. Once the class begins, if we have been unable to accommodate you, we will return any fee(s) paid. must be paid at the time of request. Do programs have a waiting list?
INCLUSION POLICY & PROCESS The city is dedicated to providing
opportunities for everyone to be a valued customer and welcomed participant in programs, regardless of ability level and reasonable accommodations as needed. When registering for a program, please indicate the participant’s special need. Then, contact Carla Kress at 952-233-9516 three weeks prior to the start of the program to discuss strategies for inclusion and for staff to gather information about the participant. You may be asked to complete a confidential intake assessment in order for staff to gain appropriate information about the participant’s abilities. HOPE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Financial aid for qualifying residents with financial limitations is available. For more information please contact the department. Applications are valid from Sept. 1-Aug. 30. Requests must be made one week before you plan to register.
